Many thanks to @Pedro_Lamb for his differential picks… Will you jump on the LambWagon?
As a Derby County fan, @pedro_lamb‘s only involvement with the Premier League is through the Fantasy Premier League game.
An avid FPL player, The Lamb’s imaginatively –titled team Lamb County managed to claw themselves up to 32,964th in the overall game this season, as well as 149th in the FY and an impressive third in the Yirma head-to-head league.
The unknown heroes
So then my fellow FPL players, it’s that time of year again. Time to try and pick that winning squad which will take you to glory and bragging rates over your mates, work colleges, family and more importantly take you to the coveted FantasyYIRMA Title 2013/14 and a cheeky 100 quid.
So then it’s time for me to have my say. I am sometimes known as the quietest member of the team and in other corners of the FY world I am known as the Get your Tips out for YIRMA 2012/13 Champion, and the brain child behind the tremendous “no first choice goalkeeper” idea, which was widely praised by the Fantasy Football community. Wasn’t it? (Ed. No..)
Anyway, I have decided to look at those players who are not stealing the limelight and being discussed on every fantasy football forum around the world. Every man and his dog knows the quality that Van Persie would bring to any fantasy team or the Welsh genius that is Bale, should he end up staying at White Hart Lane. Whilst there is also the future star and in my opinion the potential player of the season in Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho. It seems that everyone is picking him.
So are you sitting comfortably?……
Then I will begin……
I have decided to start off with a forward that you should strongly consider selecting, Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu.
He is on loan from Barcelona and may have only played for the B team last year, but when you consider who that club is and the fact he has just signed a new four year contract, this lad must therefore know how to play.
His record is close to one goal every two games and given the level of service that he will be provided by Pienaar and Fellaini, he looks set to be the Toffees top goal scorer, especially as Jelavic struggled last season.
This man’s starting price is just £6 million, another Lamby bargain, and you also have to take into consideration part of the loan deal which states that if Deulofeu plays over half of the games this season, the Toffees won’t pay any loan fees.
I fully anticipate Deulofeu, will be leading the attack and maybe for the first time in 15 years it will be the blue half of Liverpool that is cheering the name of Gerard.
My midfielder to select made somewhat a name for himself last season, however he was in the shadow of a certain Spaniard who stormed the FPL last year in Michu.
However my pick is his Dutch teammate Jonathan De Guzman. This man’s starting price is also just £6 million, so straight away there is the benefit that he is 3 million cheaper than Michu. Also this season I fully expect that Wilfried Bony will be a Swans star and he will be scoring goals for fun, with De Guzman the main man providing Wilfred with the service required.
My final pick is one of Cardiff’s latest recruits John Brayford, who in the last campaign in the Championship with Derby County was considered by some to be the best right back in the league, no mean feat in such a competitive division.
That alone doesn’t justify selecting him, for that we have to look at his record which shows he has been a firm fans’ favourite at every club that he has played at, as he has been awarded the fans’ player of the year on four occasions at his last three clubs, (Burton Albion, Crewe x2 and Derby).
This is down to his energy on the pitch as he’ll give 110% every week, with his attacking play and solid defensive tackles proving vital. He also has only one red card in 298 appearances, averaging just one yellow card every 20 games. (Ed. And he has a lovely beard)
On the 17th August when he lines up against West Ham he will become one of just a few special players to have played in all five leagues from the Conference up to the Premier League, and at just £4 million he could be the standout bargain of the season.
There you have it. Three players and just £16m of your £100 million purse spent.
I have been @Pedro_Lamb reporting for Fantasy Yirma, and remember its 7555-3083.
