Champions League: Semi Final Preview
The first match up sees Atletico Madrid host Chelsea… Atletico have never lost at home to an English side, but Mourinho knows a bit about unbeaten home records and will hope to change that.
Sadly for them, it looks like Hazard will miss out, after missing training this morning. At least they should be able to welcome back Petr Cech, who missed the game vs Sunderland due to illness. Rumour has it that Luiz will fill in for the suspended Ivanovic. The other option is for Azpilicueta to switch to right back and for Ashely Cole to play on the left.
The Premier League title looks to have slipped away from Chelsea, even a win against Liverpool won’t swing the odds back in their favour. So, I expect them to put everything into these next 2 Champions League matches, and my money is on them to reach the final.
Atletico are currently 4 points clear in the Spanish La Liga, and showing no signs of letting the title slip away. This could be a problem for them… they will, and should, be focusing on winning their first league title since 1996.
They do have the luxury of a fully fit squad though. The only slight doubt being Arda Turan.
Players to consider – With budget still an issue for most of us, the bargain players are definitely worth added consideration:
Torres (Only kidding)
Next up with we could have the game of the season so far. Bayern wrapped up the league title weeks ago, so their focus is solely on retaining the Champions League trophy.
Bayern should be able to rely on Neuer, who trained this morning after coming off injured against Dortmund. David Alaba and Contento also returned to training and should make the squad. Shaqiri and Alacantara will both miss out.
Madrid are buzzing after their Copa del Rey final win against Barcelona. That was some winning goal from Gareth Bale!
The good news for Madrid, and more importantly all us FiT managers… is that Ronaldo should be ok to feature. He, along with Marcelo and Ramos, all took part in training yesterday. I would still wait for the team line-ups before making any transfers though!
Players to consider – All of them! I will list the bargains only.
Casillas (The cheapest of the first choice keepers left in the competition)
You have 3 free transfers and 1 optional, these are to be used for the first legs. On Thursday the 24th April, you will receive 2 more free to use during the 2nd legs. Transfers don’t carry over, so make sure you use your existing transfers before Real Madrid vs Bayern kick off.
IMPORTANT: You can now select up to 6 players from the same club.
This is where it gets very tricky. Do you pile on players from 2 teams, or go with 2-3 from each club still left in the competition? Personally, I think who dares wins…
Best of luck
