Champions League Final: Can Atletico do the double
The 13/14 Champions League winner will be decided this Saturday evening. After securing the La Liga with a draw at Barcelona, Atletico could pull off one of the shock doubles of all time…
Diego Simeone deserves a lot of credit – taking over back in 2011-12, things didn’t look too good. But he worked his magic, and in his first full season in charge of the club, he won the Europa League and achieved a 5th place La Liga finish. The season after was even better – a 3rd place finish and the Copa del Rey secured. Fast forward to 13/14, and he’s done the impossible, beating Real and Barcelona to the title and reaching the Champions League final.
Real Madrid on the other hand, have suffered a slightly disappointing season. Yes, they won the Copa del Rey, but with Barcelona under-performing, they were expected to win the league as well. I’m sure all will be forgiven if they can overcome their rivals and win the Champions League for the first time in 12 years.
The good news for Real, and for FiT managers, is that Ronaldo and Bale have trained, and both should be fit enough to start. The remaining major injury doubts are Pepe and Benzema, who will both face late fitness tests. One player that will definitely miss out through suspension,is Xabi Alonso – with Sami Khedira his likely replacement.
Atletico are sweating on the fitness of 2 of their superstars, Diego Costa and Arda Turan, with the latter having the better chance of making the game. If Costa doesn’t make it, David Villa is ready to step in. Sadly for Atletico fans, Villa hasn’t scored in his last 14 appearances!
Kick off is at 7.45m (BST), and regardless of the team selections it should be a cracking game.
We still have a lot to be decided in the FiT world. Are you fighting it out for the Mini League end of tournament trophy, or are you still trying to work out how James has got himself in a position to win his own dream double? You have 3 FREE and 1 optional transfer to use in the final game – my advice (with so many injury doubts), is to wait for the line-ups before using them. Even if you have nothing to play for, there is a good chance that you could pick the perfect 11 and walk away with the last Gameround prize.
The EPL may have finished and the CL is coming to end, but rejoice… the World Cup is now only a few weeks away. You can create your FREE World Cup iTeam right NOW, and you have unlimited transfers up until 10 minutes before the first game kicks off on June 12th.
We hope you have enjoyed the Champions League addition this season, and it will return for 14/15. Thanks again for your continued support and a massive thank you to @FantasyYIRMA for all their help throughout the tournament.
Best of luck on Saturday!
