Manchester United and Chelsea to drop points?

Previews by @OurLogie and @Bet_McLean

We have two FA Cup semi finals this weekend but there are some crucial games on offer in the Premier League .

The Chelsea Man United game will grab lots of headlines but the likes of Leicester against Swansea and Burnley away to Everton deserve coverage as well. I think Chelsea will win the title no matter what happens but the race is still on for the coveted places in Europe.

Crystal Palace v West Brom

Tony Pulis returns to his old club and I am sure he will get a warm welcome. A bit like Alan Pardew he worked a minor miracle for Palace in the past.

The efforts of Pardew at Palace all the same has to be one of the stories of the season. When he arrived they were 18th in the league with 17 points. In his eleven games he has won eight and drawn one. What a superb effort that is. I’m not his biggest fan but you do have to take your hat off to him for what has been a superb stint at Palace.

West Brom arrive in London on the back of a bad run. They have lost three on the trot and whilst I feel they will be safe they still need a few points to ease the worries.

This will be close but I do think that Palace are on a roll and will take some stopping.

Home win.

Everton v Burnley

Burnley will fight to the very end but their problem is the same as it was at the start of the season. They don’t score enough goals. They are facing an Everton side who are at last beginning to find some form. They struggled for long parts of the season but they have turned the corner ands they will want to keep up the good form between now and the end of the season. They should have beaten Swansea last week but finished with a point.

As I said Burnley need goals and their top scorer Danny Ings hasn’t found the net in his last seven games.

I really like Burnley and their approach to football but I think this is a bridge too far for them.

Home win.

Leicester v Swansea

The race to avoid relegation is probably more exciting than the race to the title which is almost over. No one I feel can catch Chelsea but who is going to go down? Leicester have won their last two matches and another win would really set them up for a fight to the finish. They have most of their games at home and that could be crucial. They were lucky against West Brom but you could say you make your own luck.

Swansea are as safe as houses and all they have to play for is professional pride. They are missing Gomis who is out injured and that will blunt their attack.

You know Leicester could make it three in a row. What a massive game for them.

Home win.

Stoke v Southampton

Now this is a hard one to call. Stoke are always hard to beat. Southampton are still aiming for a place in Europe. If they can get a draw or a win in this fixture they will go ahead of Liverpool in that vital race.

Unlike UKIP Southampton would love to be in Europe and they will be trying everything they can to do just that.
Very hard to call.

Draw.

Chelsea v Man United

The top of the table clash which means more to United than Chelsea. Chelsea would love to win but they don’t need to win. A draw here would be ok for Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea will be champions. Simple as that. They would love to win with goals and in great style but it’s the points not the performance that matters now.

United are moving well now under Van Gaal. I was with a few United fans who were at Old Trafford for the win over City and they are just happy bunnies at this stage. Finishing in the top four and beating City in style. It’s been a good season for them.

Draw.

Man City v West Ham

I know the manager Manuel Pelligrini is under pressure but can you say about the City players. It seems so many of them are already thinking of the beach. They have fallen apart in recent weeks.

Six defeats in their last eight games is a disgrace. Who would be a City supporter. Players getting massive wages and not turning in a shift. It’s clear there needs to be a bit of a clear out at the club.

They are facing a West Ham side who are also in trouble. One win in their last games says it all. Sam Allardyce also under pressure and set to lose his job with West Ham.

This is a huge game for City . Almost like a cup final they simply have to win this one and I think they will.

Home win.

Newcastle v Spurs

It’s as if both sets of players are dreaming of the sun at theses clubs. Both appear to be in free fall. Since Pardew left Newcastle they appear to have remained at the same spot. Going nowhere I would suggest. Not a game I will go out of my way to watch I have to say.

If Harry Kane was taken out of the Spurs side where would they be?? A bit like Newcastle . Nowhere.

Newcastle have suffered five straight defeats and the fans are gearing up for yet more protests. It’s as if they have more protests than points.

Not a game I am too concerned about.

A draw.
