Football League Betting Tips: One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson to Score?

We get underway in the football season on Saturday and our friends at have picked out their best three bets of the opening weekend.

As the Football League season kicks off a number of clubs will be finding their feet in a new division and one team that could struggle this season is Blackpool. In the Premier League just a few years ago they are in a whole world of trouble and enter this campaign on the back of a poor season last campaign.

Betting tip: Doncaster to beat Blackpool at 6/4 with William Hill.

On Saturday they travel to newly promoted Doncaster Rovers and this looks the ideal start for the Championship new boys who will be in front of a sellout crown and keen to get off to a winning start. Blackpool seem to lack any ambition to get back to the Premier League and should go down to an opening day defeat.

DONCASTERFY Editor: Genuinely never thought there would be a time when I would have an opportunity to use a picture of One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson  (he signed as a non-contract player in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield.)

Betting tip: Grant Holt to score anytime vs Barnsley at 17/10 with Paddy Power

For our second tip we look to one of the relegated sides from the Premier League, and their new center forward. We are talking about Wigan and former Norwich battering ram Grant Holt. He caused Premier League defences problems when he featured for Norwich so we expect him to do so even more against weaker Championship opposition, Wigan are at Barnsley on Saturday and Grant Holt can get himself off to a flying start with a goal.

Betting tip: Peterborough HT/Peterborough FT at 23/10 with 188bet.

For’s final football tip we drop down to League One and Peterborough United vs Swindon Town.  Peterborough are the definition of a yo-yo club and again were relegated back to this level last season despite being involved in some real thrillers with goals flying in at both ends. This season they will need to sure up at the back but goals will not be a problem.

On the other hand Swindon come into this season in a midst of backroom problems and a seeming reluctance from the board to spend any money. Penny pinching in this league will not get them anywhere and an opening day beating could set the alarm bells ringing. Peterborough look a sound bet at around Evens, but for a bigger return back them to be winning at both half-time and full-time.
