Yaya Toure has bagged 20 goals from midfield for Manuel Pellegrini this season
The 38 game marathon comes to an end on Sunday and it looks as though Manchester City will be crowned Premier League champions once again. Slip ups by Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks mean the Citizens have had a much easier route to the title than expected. The Citizens lead second placed Liverpool by two clear points but their dominant goal difference counts as an extra point in the Premier League title race. But Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini will not be taking anything for granted as history has shown the pressure of a final day title decider can get to the best of players. City won the title in the 2011/12 season with two goals scored in injury time against an already relegated QPR side in what was one of the greatest Premier League finishes in the history of its existence. They face a West Ham team who confirmed their survival witha 2-0 win last week to Tottenham, but will want to have their say on the title race.
“Every Player can go out and give everything they’ve got on the basis that they know we’re in the Premier League next year, but let’s try and spoil Manchester City’s party.” Sam Allardyce (West Ham manager)
Four wins on the bounce for City has made this current scenario possible including a win away to Liverpool. They have spent the least amount of days at the top of the table in the top four but have hit top form at the perfect time in the season. Pellegrini’s men have already beaten the Hammers three times this season at an aggregate of 12-1, having met in the semi-final stage of the Capital One Cup. Despite Sam Allardyce’s backline managing to keep 14 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, they have not won away to Manchester City for 11 years. One incentive the Hammers do have is the prize money for the league position each club finishes is at a record high. Every position is worth £1.2million, the Hammers could lose out on £4.8million if they lose and the teams below them win.
