And So It Begins… It’s as if the Premier League season never ended.
It only seems like yesterday that the Premier League was finished and here we are back again at the starting post with 380 Premier League games to look forward to.
Chelsea for me are the team to beat although I do think it might not be as easy this time round. Manchester United will be close enough after some decent signings and I also think that Arsenal will be a real threat. Petr Cech could be the signing of the season. I think the usual suspects will be struggling at the bottom but as ever it will be interesting every week. So here goes again with the Predictions. Great to be back.
Previews from @Bet_McLean and @OurLogie
Man Utd v Spurs
Man United have made some very good signings over the summer but they still need a striker. Interesting as they face Spurs that they are being linked with a possible move for Harry Kane. The Spurs striker was brilliant last season so he would be an interesting choice. Last season United lost their opening game against Swansea but I don’t see a repeat. United are part of my treble bet this week and I fancy them for all three points in this one.

Bournemouth v Aston Villa
Before a ball has been kicked in anger they are already the story of the Premiership. Bpurnemouth. What a rags to riches adventure it’s been. The smallest capacity ever for a Premier League side and now battling against the big boys. Some of the away sections in other grounds are bigger than their stadium. They get what they wanted which is a home draw first day and they have realistic hopes of beating a Villa side packed with several new faces. It could take some time for the French Foreign Legion to settle in. If Bournemouth stay up it would be incredible. I think they might just get the perfect start here.

Everton v Watford
Another of the new boys take their bow but this will be far from easy. Everton are still looking for players and still looking to keep players. Chelsea are breathing down their necks for John Stones and you wonder how disruptive that has been. Watford had four managers last season. You wonder how long the new man, Quique Flores will stay in charge. Watford will go at this gasme but Everton will have too much experience.
Home win again.

Leicester v Sunderland
The story around these two clubs is the manager. Dick Advocaat took charge of Sunderland for the last nine games and kept them up. He wanted to leave but was persuaded to stay. In the end the key was making Sunderland hard to beat Expect more of the same. Claudio Ranieri takes over at Leicester after the departure of Nigel Pearson who kept his side up. He may not have won too many awards in the diplomatic corps but you can’t fault his efforts on the park. A difficult start I would suggest for both sides. Both managers will not to lose this one.

Norwich v Crystal Palace
Palace were one of the teams of the season. Alan Pardew changed their outlook totally and now they are a side who can face into the Premiership with confidence. Norwich will like the other two promoted sides will scrap for every point but who knows how they will get on. A home match on opening day is all you can ask for. Well that and the three points. I don’t think they will get them here. A new confident Palace to get all three for me.

Chelsea v Swansea
Last season Swansea began the campaign with an opening day win at Old Trafford. Do not expect a repeat here. Chelsea are just too battle hardened and they just don’t do defeats at Stamford Bridge. The team to beat will remain so after this evening kick off. Swansea will stay up but Chelsea will do them no favours in this one.

Arsenal v West Ham
West Ham bowed out of the Europa League this week but they played a virtual second string side with a view to this Sunday clash with Arsenal. Astra Giurgiu from Romania rolled them over with that 2-1 home win and West Ham will now look to pick up the pieces under new coach Slaven Bilic. They might have been safer trying to stay in Europe. Arsenal will be full of confidence after the win over Chelsea and they have a better look to them this season. They are part of my treble bet this week and I expect them to be too good for the Hammers. Petr Cech is in goal for Arsenal but I don’t expect him to be that busy.

Newcastle v Southampton
First game of the season and hard one to call I would suggest. Steve McClaren eventually went to Newcastle after saying all along he didn’t want the job. He will do a decent job up there. He has brought in several new players but they face a tough task at home to a Southampton team who punched above their weight last season. They did drift away near the end but that was to be expected. I have changed my mind so many times on this one.

Stoke v Liverpool
Now this is more than a game. This will be a battle. Revenge is in the air for Liverpool after losing 6-1 to Stoke on the final day of the season. Already the bookies have made Brendan Rodgers the favourite to be the first manager to get the red card from his club. Now that is pressure. I’m not sure it will work out that way all the same.
Stoke are just one of those teams who are hard to beat. Sometimes they are good to watch but not all the time. I bit like Liverpool if you ask me. I have looked long and hard at this one and changed my mind several times. I don’t think Liverpool will win. In fact I have toyed with the idea of a Stoke win but I’m heading for the fence.

West Brom v Man City
West Brom will continue to improve under Tony Pulis but I’m not now so sure we can say the same about Manchester City.Under Pelligrinni they have gone backwards and all doesn’t appear right in their squad. Yes they will be up there with the best this season but they don’t look to be a team who can win the title. I have backed them several times over the past couple of seasons to do just that but they seem to have lost a little spark in recent times. Can they recover this season? The jury is out. Having said that if they really want to be amongst the best they need to be winning theses sorts of games. They might just sneak it.
