OK Folks… Here’s the deal. I get asked to review things fairly regularly. I say no fairly regularly.

“Don’t have the time mate”

“Washing my hair buddy”

“Sorry but that clashes with my dog’s Krav Maga class”

Typically though I say no because at the end of the day this is a fantasy football website and why would I spend time reviewing gardening equipment. Sounds ridiculous…but it has actually happened

This was different. I downloaded RETRO SOCCER myself. I got hooked myself. Over the space of the first few days I actually dread to think how many games I played. Then I reached out to the developer myself –@8PixelsSquare to tell them I LOVED the game and offered to post it on the site!!

This is arcade football at it’s best. This is pick up and play. This is “just 1 more game” territory. You have the potential to score a screamer of a goal within a few minutes of playing but there is a learning curve also.

If I am being brutally honest when I first played it was fairly tough to keep 11 players on the pitch for the duration of the match.

The game certainly reminds me of the glory days of Sensible Soccer we all remember fondly but in my case crossed with 11 Mathieu Flamini style hatchet men running around the pitch launching into 30 yard slide tackles that are all so so wrong… But so so right!!

The game designers have certainly had fun with the animations and it shows. It looks crisp, visually impressive. The game draws you as you play more games to build your squad rating and earn coins to boost your stats. My forward line of “IBRA” “KING ERIC” AND “DAVVY” is currently striking fear into the hearts of all YIRMA FC opponents.

In terms of improvements – it’s hard to be overly critical because as a Free Game Download, 3 weeks on it’s still my go to game if I have a spare 10 minutes.

I would LOVE an online multiplayer mode with the option of challenge friends online – maybe that’s in the works already.

My initial concerns of keeping players on the pitch subsided when I realised the game actually provides a flashing yellow and red boarder on the screen if you are about to be reprimanded by the card happy referee!

Genuinely though – loved the game on launch and happy to post about it here on FantasyYIRMA.com. Kudos to the team at @8PixelsSquare for this beauty of a nostalgic arcade throw back!
