With two games already off ahead of the Boxing Day fixtures, the following tips are based on the games going ahead as of now.
(Edit – it’s less now)
Think of these tips like the list you used to send to Santa Claus. It contains the list of what you wanted when you wrote it, but that may not really be the same thing on the big day when Santa is due to arrive.
The good news is that the kind people in FPL towers have outdone Santa and basically allowed you to rewrite your list! Word on the street is that everyone you see online giving out about this move is actually a North Pole Elf blowing their cover. I mean, they just can’t compete with that, can they?
Onto GW19!
(Ed: Look – the preview was outdated 30 mins after it was written but at least we get to post the **** outta the Christmas song)
GW19 Defender: Kieran Tierney, Arsenal
Three clean sheets in his last four for Tierney (admittedly he was hooked before Everton scored against Arsenal a few weeks ago), and a couple of assists in that run also.
Arsenal make the trip from London to East Anglia to take on Norwich City this Boxing Day, and they’ll be expected to follow their turkey feast by devouring the canaries.
That’s a fowl pun, I apologise.
GW19 Midfielder: Jarod Bowen, West Ham United
With Michail Antonio confirmed as having tested positive for you know what, West Ham faced Spurs in midweek with Bowen up top, and he duly scored in their 2-1 defeat.
There’s a chance that Antonio may be ok for the weekend, but even if he is Bowen has three goals and seven assists so far from midfield, so will be a very viable option in any case.
The Hammers face Southampton at home this weekend, hoping to bounce back from their recent poor run of form, and I fancy them to do it.
GW19 Forward: Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United
He has form.
He has the fixture.
He has had a rest.
Ronaldo away to a struggling Newcastle United in the only game on that night during the Christmas break? You couldn’t set up a more ‘look at me’ moment for Ronaldo if you tried.
You’ll be able to hear the SIUUUUU chants from Mars.
GW19 Captain: Heung Min Son, Spurs
The biggest question on everyone’s lips today?
It’s not ‘What am I getting for Christmas’.
It’s not ‘How virulent is Omicron’
It’s not even ‘Is 11am too early to start drinking during the Christmas holidays?’ (Answer: It’s not)
The big question that 6,435,684 people around the world are asking is ‘Who the hell am I going to get in instead of Salah this week?’
The answer is Heung Min Son, ladies and gents. He’s on one of those runs of his. Three goals in his last three games, an assist also for good measure, and a home fixture to Crystal Palace to come. He had a lovely rest in midweek too.
GW19 Outsider: Ben Davies, Spurs
Back in the Spurs side since GW10, he’s delivered two assists and three clean sheets in those six games.
Conte knows how to set up a defence, he seems to like Davies, and he’s just £4.5m and owned by 2%.
Your move…
