#FPL GAMEWEEK 27
DEFENDER: Funes Mori, Everton
At the back it’s my old favourite Funes Mori. Sure, I should pick Gareth McAuley every week but I missed the first ten minutes of that film, I can’t watch now!
If you’re looking to recruit a reliable sub 5m defender who has games both this week and next then bring in Mori. 39 points in his last 7 games is a pretty good return for a guy who could be going through your bins and you still wouldn’t recognise him. Spurs away will of course put many of you off. Not me though. That’s A Mori.
MIDFIELDER: Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea
If FPL handed out attendance medals, Gylfi Sigurdsson would no doubt be at the front of the queue, getting bullied by the cooler kids like Alexis Sanchez or Eden Hazard who skip school for weeks on end but then turn up and get 9 GCSEs without revising. Who’s the real swot Eden?!
Siggy is a stalwart for Swansea and it is very rare he doesn’t clock up more than his automatic 2 points. In fact, he hasn’t done so once in his last 5 weeks. He takes corners, he takes penalties, he takes lovely photos on his iphone, I’ve seen his insta and Burnley’s horrendous away form does nothing to deter me from sticking him in. He’s also playing next week. That’s genuinely a bonus.
FORWARD: Peter Crouch, Stoke
Peter Crouch has started every match since gameweek 18 and while he hasn’t been prolific, he has represented value at times for a 4.9m pick. Stoke, of course, have a double gameweek as well but that seems to have been forgotten in all the City furore. He is of course likely to only pick up 2 points against city but his home tie with Boro is a good chance to add to his 4 goals in 8 games. Plus, it’s Peter Crouch, this might be your last opportunity to ever pick the little scamp.
CAPTAIN: Leroy Sane, Manchester City
Unsurprisingly it is another Double Game Week pick. More surprisingly I am picking Leroy Sane. I say this not just as a hipster pick, I am actually triple captaining him myself. While Aguero is the obvious choice, the potential squad rotation really scares me. Sane has clocked up 90 minutes for the last 4 consecutive matches and is young enough to play every game all season. Like an incestuous cult leader, he really has come into his own of late and he is causing more and more problems for opposition’s defences. His relationship with Sterling and Aguero/Jesus is making him a potentially World Class player and if you’re toiling in your league like me then it could be the differential over Aguero you need.
ED: I feel empty inside that Sergio Aguero has been left out of this preview. Primarily because I assumed he would be in it and had images prepared to use. Ah well.. I wrote about Aguero in our #FPL Post for The Sports Bible
OUTSIDER: Alfie Mawson, Swansea
Once again, with an eye on the bleak gameweek ahead of us, Swansea’s Alfie Mawson has become an increasingly appealing pick in the FPL World. I watched him play at Wembley for Barnsley last year and while I struggle to take all the credit, I pretty much discovered him. What’s most impressive about his adjustment to the Premier League has been his goalscoring! He has outscored both Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge this season and Paul Clement has really turned things around at The Liberty. Burnley this week and hull next are huge games for Swansea and burnley have only picked up 2 away points all season.
