Preview- French Ligue 1: Troyes v Bastia

Big thanks to Leroy from Leroysbettingtips.co.uk for providing FantasyYirma with his own personal selection for this weekend’s Football. Delighted to have him on the site. You can follow Leroy on Twitter also at @LeroyFootyTips

This tip comes from the French Ligue 1 game between Troyes v Bastia taking place at the Stade de l’Aube at 19.00 this evening.

Another game from two sides involved in a relegation scrap in the French tip tier and I am expecting a pretty open game with both sides going for all 3 points.

Both sides have impressed me attacking wise of late although both sets of defence’s leave a lot to be desired.

Troyes currently occupy 19th position in the table and are 5 points adrift of safety as things stand. It was looking good last week as they led 0-2 at Toulouse only to concede two goals in the final 3 minutes of the game including a late own goal from Nivet, shaky defending at crucial times of the game has been something that has occurred too often this season.

Attacking wise though they have impressed and are growing in confidence especially at home.

Tonight is a game they really have to go out and try and win with their opponents Bastia 7 points above them in the table and I expect them to give it their all however I do not rate their chances of keeping Bastia out over 90 minutes.
Despite a 0-0 draw last time out, Troyes have managed just 1 other clean sheet at home all season long and have conceded 12 goals in their last 6 games here before that.

They did however mange to find the net equally 12 times themselves during that time and 5 of those 6 games all went over 2.5 goals with the other a 1-1 draw with Nice.
Bastia have conceded heavily during their travels for the most part of the season, in fact they they have the worst defensive record in the league conceding 51 times in just 25 games with 29 of those conceded on the road.

They themselves are just 3 points above the drop zone currently and this is the kind of game they will be aiming to win against a side in a poorer position.

With Bastia’s home record where they are generally finding the points to aid their survival they have nothing to lost tonight by going out and trying to win this game and that’s why I expect a pretty end to end game.

It’s true that Bastia have have struggled to find the net away from home this season but they have had their moments. They put 2 past Lyon, Nice and Reims as well as 3 against Sochaux all away from home.

Last away day they lost out to big guns PSG but still managed to score with the game ending 3-1.

All 4 of Bastia’s last 4 away games have all exceeded the Over 2.5 Goals mark.

This game should be seen as Bastia’s most important away fixture of the season so far and although I am not so confident they can take all 3 points, I am confident they can find the net and I will be expecting Troyes themselves to bag a couple of goals tonight.

Because of all the factors mentioned above I see the odds of 2.1 with Boylesports a great bet and is one of my favourites of the day.
Good luck to everyone betting today!

Guest Post: Weekend’s Football Value Bets

Weekend’s Football Value Bets

It’s a big weekend for me coming up and there is a fair amount of football that interests me through Europe.

I have selected two of my stand out bets to share with you.

The first comes from France in the game between Sochaux v Reims taking place Saturday afternoon and I will be betting on both teams to score here. With both sides struggling near the foot of the table this becomes a game in which I believe neither side would be happy to settle for a point. Both are locked on 19 points each and are also joint on the same points with Evian TG who play Friday night away to Lyon and whom also occupy the last relegation place in the table. Sochaux have managed to find the net in all but two of their home games so far this season and although Reims do struggle for goals on the road, they will surely be going all out for 3 points here in this crucial game and they did score twice against Lorient in their 2-2 draw just last weekend which will have done their confidence the world of good going forward after a dire spell without a goal on the road. This should be a pretty end to end game in my opinion and therefore I feel the odds of 2.1 with Coral just look a touch too big for me.

The other bet features on Sunday afternoon and comes from the African Cup Of Nations opener between hosts South Africa v Cape Verde who make their tournament debut here. I am a big fan of African football and have seen a fair bit of football from both nations over the past couple of years and I really feel Cape Verde are capable of springing a surprise here. South Africa have hit a bit of a downward spiral in recent times and really have not impressed me. Of course what they do have here over their opponents is the experience of playing on the big stages of world football and that may well play a part here along with the fact that they are the hosts so an obvious advantage there but Cape Verde will be up for this game and they are dangerous, especially going forward. They managed 12 goals in their final 5 games of qualification and won games over the likes of Cameroon and Zimbabwe. Lille forward Ryan Mendes could be the difference here, the 23 year old is a hot prospect for the future and one to watch out for in this tournament.

Cape Verde would surprise most by even achieving a draw in this game and I feel they well capable of that. If they were to lose I would bet it by just a single goal so I see huge value in taking them to win this game with a +1 Asian Handicap at odds of 1.8 with Marathon. This means if they were to lose this game by just a single goal we would have our stakes returned to us and the bet effectively made void.

Weekend Football Value Bets

Sochaux v Reims – BTTS – 2.1@Coral – France – 15.00 KO

South Africa v Cape Verde +1AH – 1.8@Marathon – African Nations – 16.00 KO

FA Cup magic makes FPL points disappear!

With it being an FA Cup weekend there is excitement, supposed magic in the air and the potential for some major upsets and great fixtures. It does mean however that there are no Premier League fixtures this week so no Fantasy Premier League. There will be a full GW22 preview coming in time for next weekend and a club insight article from Fantasy Yirma ‘Pundit’ @Mark_Jones86.

For keen FPL managers all eyes will surely be watching out for the final score coming from St. Mary’s Stadium this weekend. Southampton take on Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday with both teams aware that they will play each other in the league in GW22 thanks to their rearranged fixture.

This match will only go ahead however if it is not a stalemate in the Cup game. In this scenario the FA Cup game would be replayed on January 16th instead of the rearranged league fixture.

Fingers are crossed that there will be a winner in the cup game between Southampton and Chelsea meaning that GW22 suddenly turns into a Double Gameweek!

Southampton are away to Aston Villa and Chelsea are away to Stoke in GW22 at the minute – throw in the potential for a Chelsea / Southampton game and suddenly we are faced with FPL questions like “Should I take a chance on Torres?” and “RAFA ROTATION….Which of his bucket-load of midfielders will get the gametime across a double gameweek??”

That is just the starting point.. Fonte , Puncheon  and Lambert all have merit for consideration in the event of a DGW…

Combine this with the fact that GW23 sees Arsenal and West Ham with a DGW, the African Cup of Nations kicks off this month and the small matter that a January Wildcard is now available and to be perfectly honest – It’s probably a good thing there is no Premier League fixtures this weekend!!

There are difficult decisions ahead.

However while there may be a few challenges in the next few GWs for everyone, it is a proud day for the team at Fantasy Yirma. The FY mini-league has made it into the top 5 “best leagues” on the official fantasy.premierleague.com website.

FYI: Our mini- league is still open for anyone to join and have a go, but be warned…the standard is extremely high…

It is great to see so many people involved in our league doing so well. Looking at the players who make up the top 15 of the Fantasy Yirma mini-league and it is extemely impressive that all of them are in the top 1000 globally out of more than 2.5m players that is certainly an achievement! Leading the charge in our league is team Wallofame who is having a great season so far sitting on 1,314 points which is 28th in the entire game…

Fantasy Yirma: Winner’s Insight !!

In the past 3 seasons of official fantasy football game Tom K has been exceptionally consistent. 3 top 10,000 performances culminated last year with an unbelievable finishing place of 204th with a massive points tally of 2306.

Let’s put this in perspective people 204th out of 2,500,000+ is not bad at all!!!

We wanted to put Tom on the spot and ask him for some insight on how he manages his teams – he did not disappoint. Here are his thoughts on how to go about looking after your fantasy team and maximising opportunities….

The guys from Fantasy Yirma asked me to write a few notes about how I play the game (and somehow managed to gain top spot in their league last season and the crisp £50 that comes with it!) so here is some insight into how I did it.

Fantasy Premier League veterans will learn nothing new here, and those who take massive selection gambles will be disappointed, but sadly the best way to mini league glory is often the slow and steady approach.

With Gameweek 1 being so important to a Fantasy season, the best piece of advice would be to not leave team selections until Saturday 18th August. Anyone who played last season will know the shambles that took place from about midday on the Friday before kick-off when the FPL website imploded leaving many with skeleton teams. Do not make the same mistake again!

More seriously, I haven’t scouted too many players in detail so I won’t mention specifics as the Yirma boys do a fine job of that themselves.

I am a hugely conservative player so most of what I am about to write is common sense but as that often goes out of the window in Fantasy Football selection, here are a few random thoughts:

  • 1. Pick players who start for their clubs. Easy. It’s a squad game and you should make the most of all 15 spots (with the possible exception of second keeper if you have a top quality option as first choice). There are base price options in defence and midfield so if you are looking at this range ensure the guys you are going for actually start.
  • 2. Don’t make transfers based purely on price rises/falls early in the week. It is so much more important to have a full strength team rather than an extra 0.1 in the bank, and the risk with an early transfer is that if anyone else is struck down or goes missing then you might be tempted to take a points hit to make amends. Which leads me on to…
  • 3. Points hits are often unnecessary. You get a free transfer every week so points hits should only be used in exceptional circumstances. I took two last year and by having a full squad to pick from it’s easy to avoid. Rolling transfers over and using two free transfers at a time is far more sensible.
  • 4. Forward Planning. Make transfers with the next five or six gameweeks in mind. Look at fixture schedules to make sure you will be happy with the player for a number of weeks as other priority transfers will crop up all the time.
  • 5. Don’t waste the wildcard! I used mine along with many others in Gameweek 36 last season and it made such a difference in getting over the line. Some will argue about getting a bit of extra cash by using it early but for me it isn’t worth it. Save it for the winter or spring and you won’t regret it. Using it for Gameweek 2 is a colossal waste, you have had all summer to tinker so put that itchy trigger finger away.
  • 6. Let new players Settle. Let players adjust to the league before taking the plunge. Having a midfield of Hazard, Kagawa, Michu, Cazorla and Holman might be end up being incredible but have a couple of safer picks alongside the new boys just in case they are bedded in slowly by managers or don’t fire from the start. By all means if you like the look of them (I certainly do) then have a couple but remember they are a risk.

Good Luck!!

Tom
