Champions League: Real Madrid v Manchester United..Caption Competition

It has possibly escaped your notice but in between GW26 and GW27 there is the small matter of a little match taking place at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. It’s a low profile game so it may have gone under your radar…

WRONG!!!

The Champions League is back and there is a HUGE match up with Manchester United travelling to Spain to take on Real Madrid.

All the talk is on Ronaldo taking on his old club, however from an Fantasy Football perspective many will be hoping that the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie come through this match unscathed! With such a high percentage ownership for RVP in particular you have to wonder with a 12 point lead in the League if Sir Alex may decide to rest his star man in some of the upcoming Premier League games should they continue to challenge in Cup competitions also.

To coincide with this match up StanJames.com are giving away a FREE £25 BET to the winner of our Caption Competition.

To enter all you have to to is Tweet your best Caption response for the picture below to @StanJames  @FantasyYIRMA and @FPL_advice_Tips. You must be following all 3 accounts for your response to be counted!

I would say try and keep it clean but having seen some of the replies already I know that won’t happen!!

Winner will be selected by StanJames during the Real Madrid vs Manchester United game on Wednesday 13th of February.

The site is run by Marcus @fantasyfootie1 and a percentage from each sale go to his selected charity – @BallsToCancer. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know about the Sports Memorabilia site – but also provide the details and a brief overview on BallsToCancer. A great charity cause to follow and one that Marcus and the FantasyYIRMA team are proud to support.

FS1

The footie-store website is the home of authentic hand signed items of sporting memorabilia. In addition we have also teamed up with a professional caricature artist to provide artistic items with a unique twist.
Firstly, we can source everyday and also unusual items of sporting memorabilia all which is sources from reputable contacts and comes complete with full certification of authenticity.  The other side of the footie-store website is that we offer a unique professional caricature service.
People simply can send over photos of themselves or a friend or loved one and tell us what sporting scenario they would like to be produced in and we’ll do the rest.  Many sites will offer this service where you can send a photograph to be sketched but its then normally produced alongside a standard template.  We market ours on being a 100 % unique service and are proud of this.
Finally, most importantly is that each sale of either service will mean a donation is made to the cancer charity – Balls To Cancer A charity that is such a worthy cause and one we are proud to be connected with.

Marcus ( @fantasyfootie1 )

BallsToCancer is a great charity raising awareness for male cancers. Please visit the site and get involved if possible.

Many Thanks,

Ryan @fantasyYirma

Here’s what @ballstocancer had to say,

We are Balls to Cancer and it is our aim to fight cancer with fun! We are raising funds for male cancer awareness, education and research.

Our aim is fourfold….

Firstly we are spending time and money on a nationwide (and in some cases worldwide) awareness campaign through the media, Social networks, leaflets and posters. To try to make both men and women more aware of the dangers of cancer and to help men, help themselves.

Secondly we want to open a male only contact point for men, boys who have been diagnosed with cancer or are worried about cancer and their families.

Thirdly we are funding an education programme for teenagers to help them understand and take away the taboo of talking about testicular cancer and asking for help. We are currently setting this up with our own local authority with the hope of going nationwide next year.

Finally we want to fund research into treatments and ultimately a cure for this horrible disease, we will be talking to Oncologists and hospitals to ascertain which laboratories are the ones we should be funding. We have already given money to many research projects and hospitals such as Birmingham & Brunel Universities and The Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Our fundraising events range from Races to football matches, climbing mountain to bungee jumping. We aim to raise as much money as we can doing fun exciting things which all the family can get involved with.

200,000 men are diagnosed a year with cancer in the UK, killing 10 men an hour.

Fantasy Premier League: Bonus Point Review

GW26 Bonus Points

So after all 11 fixtures scheduled for GW26 the completed batch of bonus points have been released.

Bale and Michu will be popular choices for 3 bonus points this week. RVP gets the 3 point award for today’s game against Everton also and this will no doubt be good news to the huge 40% + ownership who own the Dutchman. After consecutive gameweeks without a goal RVP returned to normality this afternoon with a goal and an assist.

Benteke with a goal and 2 BP’s is certainly building on his growing reputation and for Chelsea, Eden Hazard returned from suspension with a Goal, assist and 3 bonus points to round off a great performance.

Davis and Lambert both benefited from Southampton’s fantastic victory against City yesterday also.

As per usual, we would like to hear from you… Who got bonus points that shouldn’t have??

Already there have been grumbles heard about how Ramsey ended up with 3BP’s and Cazorla ?? Do you agree/Disagree.

Drop a comment below and let us know your thoughts.

With Liverpool still to play twice and West Brom and Swansea in action also, GW26 is shaping up to provide some big #FPL scores. How is your team doing so far – tweet us your scores @FantasyYIRMA

Football Trader Now Live – Football’s New Fantasy Stock Market Game

Last month on FantasyYIRMA we previewed the new Fantasy Football game from www.footballtraderapp.com . The game has now gone live and check it out if you get a chance! We trialled the game ourselves in the testing phase and it is definitely impressive!

football_trader_article_headline_image

The creator of the game @realtime_sports had this to say about Football Trader:

Football Trader is a new type of Fantasy Football game where you Buy & Sell shares in players on a live stock market called the PlayerDAQ. Unlike most fantasy football games, this is played in Real-time, meaning the price of players is changing constantly based on users trading on the market and also player performances.

Every user starts with £100M budget and the goal of the game is to Grow the Value of your Players, and therefore your Team, as much as you can.

FootyTrader

What makes the game different to traditional Fantasy Football games is that it’s all about investing in players, as opposed to picking a team for the weekend. Finding good value in players is something a lot of FPL players look for, but this is always outweighed by having to look to pick players who we think will score or assist or keep a clean sheet. In Football Trader, you look to Invest in players and sell them when you think their value has peaked.

footytrader2

You also get Match Dividend Bonus cash added to your cash balance after the weekend’s matches that gives you extra money to buy more shares in players. This dividend is based on how your players performed in their matches. What we liked about the game when we tried it was the Live historical graph feature and also Breaking Player News, we haven’t seen something like this before and is something that should go down well.

The Beta game is now open Live for users to play till the end of the season.

Users can play the game on the link below on their mobile or on web. Football Trader plan to launch native apps very soon.

Fantasy Premier League: GameWeek26 overview from @RotoZdroik

Thanks to @RotoZdroik for his guest post looking at Gameweek26.

When playing Fantasy Soccer (ed. Football!?!?!), there are two things you have to focus on when building your team: Form and Value. If you’re grabbing players because they have a lot of total points, it doesn’t really work out most of the time.

The first example is Michu, who hasn’t scored since December, a stretch of seven games. Even with that stat, there was close to 100,000 people that added him in the month of January because he’s still near the top of the charts in total points.

Another player is Carlos Tevez, who’s owned by 23 percent of people at premierleague.com. Tevez has zero goals and three assists since Dec. 9. In Man City’s last six matches, he only has three starts. That’s telling you something right there, and even his starts have a lot to do with Sergio Aguero’s injury.

Branislav Ivanovic is one of the most expensive defenders in the game and is owned by 24 percent of players. He has a lot of points because of his four goals and one assist on the year. Can you really count on that for a defender, though? Two of those goals came in the first two games of the year. He has had more than two Fantasy points just once since Dec. 23. Chelsea’s defense has been a question mark of late, giving up eight goals in their last four matches. Why is he still owned by so many people? He’s a waste of money.

Cases like these can be found across all positions and owners aren’t doing anything about it. They just assume a player is good because of his name or that he has a lot of points and that sooner or later, he’ll come around again. You can’t play Fantasy with that kind of mentality. You need the best possible team every week, not one scattered with underperforming, expensive players.

Here are some guys that are in form and deserve your attention.

Julio Cesar, QPR, GK, 5.0m, 3.8% owned

He has four clean sheets in his last five matches which says everything you need to know. Is there a reason Ben Foster is on more teams that Cesar, yet costs the same? Foster hasn’t had a clean sheet since returning from injury, that’s eight straight games.

How about Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic, who’s owned by over 25 percent of players? A lot of people probably got him when he was cheaper, but he’s 5.8m right now and not everyone got him at the beginning of the year at 4.5m. Stoke’s defense has disappeared in the new year, giving up goals in seven straight games including a stretch of 15 goals in five games. He’s not close to being a good option even with their upcoming schedule.

Ben Davies, Swansea, DEF, 4.6m, 12.9% owned
His ownership rate has picked up a lot lately which is good to see. I say this stat often, the Swans have allowed fewer goals on the road than any other club. They were very close to another clean sheet this past weekend, but Andy Carroll finally stepped up.

Michael Dawson, Tottenham, DEF, 4.5m, 2.3% owned
Why is a starting Spurs defender only on two percent of teams? He’s been injured a lot this year, but he’s probably going to be the starter for the rest of the year as long as he stays healthy. Dawson is by far the cheapest of the bunch on the Spurs backline.

These two players lead to question why Ryan Shawcross is the most owned defender. He falls in line with Begovic. The Stoke defense is in a slump. People have been dropping Shawcross for the past month, but he’s still on close to 29 percent of squads.

Much like Ivanovic, teammate Ashley Cole is also hugely overrated. Chelsea’s defense is in a funk and Cole costs 6.5m, which no one can really justify. He’s on 15.1% of teams.

Frank Lampard, Chelsea, MID, 8.5m, 4.5% owned

Midfielders are a little harder to look at because most of them are living up to their pricing, but one of them that isn’t getting enough attention is Lampard. He is somehow being underrated right now. He and Steven Gerrard have taken a drink from the fountain of youth and are two of the hottest players in the game. Lamps has seven goals in his last eight starts.

On the other end of that is Yaya Toure, who is still on 15 percent of squads even though he’s been away in Africa for the past few weeks. Even so, he’s played in 800 more minutes than Lampard and has less Fantasy Points. Toure is a great player, but not overwhelming in Fantasy. He costs the same as Marouane Fellaini (last week’s Fantasy leader) and is only 0.8m cheaper than Lampard. Why spend good money on a player that isn’t worth it?

Another midfielder that can be looked at is recent transfer Moussa Sissoko, who is very close to being a forward for Newcastle. While he’s only played in two Premier League matches, he’s already shown what he can do with two goals and an assist. At only 6.0m, a lot of people will be looking to add him to their squads.

Victor Anichebe, Everton, FOR, 4.4m, 2.4% owned

The fact that he’s still owned by less than three percent of people is mind boggling. Not only does he have three goals and four assists in his last eight matches, he has sort of taken over Nikica Jelavic’s spot as Everton’s starting striker. The guy is currently at 4.4m. He would be your third forward and he’s doing better than Demba Ba (26.9% owned) at Chelsea. I told everyone Ba was overrated a few weeks ago and he’s only backed up my statement with just one league goal in a Blues uniform.

Christian Benteke, Aston Villa, FOR, 6.6m, 5.1% owned

I already mentioned how there are a lot of overrated forwards in the game. Benteke is probably the most underrated of them all, mainly because no one is paying attention to Villa as they are headed for relegation. Benteke has been a great option almost all season long and he’s only getting better. He has six goals and an assist in his last five matches. Villa has not won any of those games, but he’s still fighting.

It makes you wonder what people are actually looking at when setting their lineups and making transfers. Benteke is on 17 percent less squads than Tevez, it makes absolutely no sense. The season is running to an end, don’t be stuck with overpriced, overrated players at the end of the year.

WEEKLY TIP

There are no weekly rankings because you should pick up all of the players I listed above. Also, there’s only one thing you need to know this week, Liverpool and Swansea have a double gameweek.

Liverpool gets two home games against West Brom and Swansea. Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard will be at the top of a lot of lists this week. At 5.0m, Jamie Carragher is also a good grab as he’s started in three straight matches.

Swansea gets QPR at home and then travels to Liverpool a week later. QPR has had trouble scoring and now there are rumors of Loic Remy being out for up to two months. The Swansea backline already got enough promotion from me, but Gerhard Tremmel could also be a good pick at keeper if Michel Vorm misses more time. I talked badly about Michu earlier, but with two matches this might be time for him to break out of his slump. If you go the cheaper route, the Swans have four other viable midfielders that cost less than 6.0m.

YOU’RE THE CAPTAIN

  1. Luis Suarez, Liverpool
  2. Steven Gerrard, Liverpool
  3. Robin van Persie, Man United
  4. Juan Mata, Chelsea
  5. Gareth Bale, Tottenham
  6. Wayne Rooney, Man United

Suarez didn’t get anything last week at Manchester City, but it’s almost a certainty that he will in these next two home matches. If you have Suarez, you are captaining him even if RVP is in your squad. In his last three home games, Suarez has four goals and two assists.

Gerrard, who is suddenly the No. 2 overall midfielder, is right behind Suarez for the armband. Just take a look at his goal against City and you won’t have any questions about him. Much like Suarez at home, Stevie G has three goals and four assists in his last four home matches.

Once again RVP was held without a goal or assist, however he surprisingly finished with three bonus points against Fulham. Rooney has taken the lead as of late, but it’s unlikely Van Persie will go three straight matches without hitting the score sheet, especially with a home match. Everton just gave up three goals to Aston Villa if that says anything about their defense at the moment.

Any other week, Mata might be the No. 1 captain option with the way he’s playing. He’s the top midfielder by 18 Fantasy Points and isn’t slowing down even after picking up a knock on his ankle last week. The Spaniard has a goal in three straight matches and now gets a weak Wigan defense at Stamford Bridge.

Bale is carrying Spurs on his back with two vital goals in the past two weeks. They return home to face a hot Newcastle club that just took out Chelsea. Bale’s speed is unmatched and this one could turn out to be an up-and-down, higher scoring game. Tottenham’s last four matches have resulted in just five total goals, but Newcastle’s play as of late should provide for more excitement.

Rooney had to make this list because he’s at home and has scored United’s last three goals. Although I still wouldn’t put him over RVP for captaining.

Gameweek 26 preview: Time for some Stevie Glee?

Image

It may have snuck up on you somewhat, but Steven Gerrard (£9.7m) is currently the fourth top points scorer in Fantasy Premier League.

Only Robin van Persie (£14.1m), Juan Mata (£10.1m) and his Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez (£10.7m) have picked up more points than the Reds captain, who has benefitted from a new fitness regime brought in by Brendan Rodgers as he’s played every single minute of Liverpool’s 25 league games this season.

The likes of Gareth Bale (£9.8m), Theo Walcott (£9.6m) and Michu (£8.4m) have all been passed by Gerrard in recent weeks, as the frequent niggling injuries which have dogged his last few campaigns and seen his team struggle along without him have become a thing of the past.

Seven goals and 12 assists tell their own story of a player who is arguably in his best form for five years, and the England captain could be a man to trust ahead of Liverpool’s double Gameweek.

Points look on offer for the men from Anfield in home matches against a West Brom outfit who have lost five of their last six in the league and then a Swansea team which will be playing just a week before their appearance in the Capital One Cup final. It must be noted that Liverpool travel to Zenit St Petersburg for a Europa League tie in between those matches, but Rodgers is likely to chop and change things for that one. It’ll be the league that he’ll be focusing on.

Gerrard – having picked up bonus points in six of his last nine matches – won’t be in a hurry to let go of that 100% league record, and off the back of his trademark goal against Manchester City last weekend he’ll be vital in his team’s hunt for points, and maybe yours too.

Despite the Englishman’s form, Suarez is still likely to be captaincy choice of the majority – and six goals in his last six games tells you just why – whilst the impact of Daniel Sturridge (£7.7m) at Anfield also makes him worth considering despite a niggling injury.

However with Liverpool now boasting the Premier League’s best home defensive record having conceded just 10 goals, a move for Glen Johnson (£6.4m) could prove wise given the right-back’s qualities going forward. The Reds are likely to be on the front foot in both of their matches, and Johnson could prove to be a key part of that.

Elsewhere the first of Swansea’s pair of matches is at home to bottom of the table QPR, and so there will be support for Michu and the increasingly popular Ben Davies (£4.6m).

Chelsea will be backed to beat Wigan at Stamford Bridge in a match which could see Fernando Torres (£9.4m) fire given the facial injury suffered by Demba Ba (£8.2m) – well, it could ― whilst Eden Hazard (£9.3m) will return from his ban. Wayne Rooney’s (£11.9m) renaissance might continue at home to former club Everton at Old Trafford, where Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea (£5.5m) will be looking to follow up what was only a fourth clean sheet of the season at Fulham last time out with another shutout.

Sergio Aguero’s (£10.9m) stunning goal against Liverpool last weekend might finally convince many that he is the Manchester City forward to bank on ahead of his side’s trip to Southampton, whilst Emmanuel Adebayor (£9.0m) is set for a return to the Tottenham squad for the home clash with Newcastle.

Whilst the Togolese was away at the African Nations Cup, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke (£6.7m) picked up support from Fantasy bosses as the key man in his struggling team, and with the Belgian hitting five goals in his last five games to become one of the 26 players have reached over 100 points by Gameweek 26 he is sure to keep that support onside.

Villa face West Ham at Villa Park on Saturday, and with the visitors losing eight of their 12 away games this season, Benteke can improve on his tally even more.

Five simple ways to win your FPL Mini League

OFFICE

Five simple ways to win your FPL Mini League

There’s nothing better than beating your friends at fantasy football and Matthew Glazier of Bettingpro.com offers some straightforward advice to ensure the bragging rights

I’m no different to most of you reading this.

I go to bed every evening thinking about which players in the “Get It Ready” squad are underperforming. I log into my FPL account every morning to see if my team value has risen or gone down after the price changes. I spend Saturday and Sunday afternoons refreshing the points page and checking to see how my rivals are faring.

Having been playing FPL for a couple of seasons, I think I’ve cracked a way of beating friends and work colleagues, even if the top players are still streets ahead of where I want to be. Here are five useful pointers which can help you win your personal Mini League.

1)    Make your transfers early

This is a contentious one but it’s worked well for me so far. The only reason to make transfers on a Friday evening / Saturday morning is because you’re waiting on injury news. However, Juan Mata, Frank Lampard or Demba Ba might have risen in price several times after last weekend’s bonus point performance – it usually pays to get the changes made quickly and boost your overall squad value.

2)    Stick to your guns after a slow start

It’s all too easy to chop and change if one of your strikers doesn’t score for a game or two. The same applies to midfielders who are scoring two points every week but, providing there was a strong basis for why you picked the player, sticking to your guns often pays off. Robin van Persie last season was a classic example as the Dutchman started to find real scoring form after a few weeks. The same has applied to Gareth Bale this term.

3)    Keep a note of the Premier League fixtures

I don’t have an algorithm which works out which teams have the easiest upcoming fixtures. However, simply inputting the next six weeks’ worth of fixtures into a spreadsheet and marking the home / away matches will give you a useful overview of what’s on the horizon. I often make a few short notes, eg Manchester United have four of their next six matches at home.

4)    Hey! You’ve got to hide your points away

You’ve worked hard to get points on the board so think carefully about those four-point deductions because you’re convinced that Steven Gerrard is going to score a hat-trick in the Merseyside derby. OK, so if your squad is decimated by injury, there might be a case for taking a hit but it usually pays to be patient before making your next transfer.

5)    Don’t pin your hopes on a DGW

There are 38 Game Weeks during the season and winning your Mini League isn’t about trying to smash it when two teams are playing twice in a week. For a start, they are facing each other in one of those games which negates their potential points-scoring impact.  Secondly, you can be stuck with players that you don’t want in the long-term.

West Ham: Why mid-table mediocrity is the way forward

Image

For most other football fans it was a day dominated by Chelsea becoming the first London club to win the European Cup, but it was easy to forget that another area of the capital had something to celebrate on May 19th 2012.

Perhaps West Ham’s Championship play-off final victory over Blackpool at Wembley was ‘easy to forget’ because the Hammers had always seemed to be a top flight club, regardless of their relegation under everyone’s favourite life of the party Avram Grant in 2011.

As opposed to the likes of Blackpool whose stopovers in the top flight have always been brief ones, West Ham have always regarded themselves as a big club who should feel at home amongst the elite and not be fearful of them.

There is nothing wrong with that of course, but at times it has seemed as though the club are fixated on running before they can walk, on aiming high only to end up disappointed.

This season they have taken back to Premier League life with a minimum of fuss, winning eight, drawing six and losing 11 of their 25 fixtures to find themselves 11th in the table. They have never really looked to be in serious relegation danger and now nine points ahead of 18th-placed Wigan following Saturday’s win over Swansea they don’t look like being in trouble any time soon.

Whereas the ‘running before you can walk’ tag can be labelled at London rivals Queens Park Rangers this season, Sam Allardyce’s West Ham have simply done enough to impress onlookers without overstretching themselves.

The signings of Jussi Jaaskelainen, Matt Jarvis and Mohamed Diame were all clever ones, whilst Allardyce pleased fans by granting Joe Cole a Hammers homecoming in January, with the former England midfielder expected to flesh out the squad and offer his guile and experience where needed.

It was another arrival from Liverpool who produced headlines in August though, and whilst injury hasn’t allowed Andy Carroll to make the kind of impact he’d have hoped for since his switch to Upton Park it is his move which has certainly been the most intriguing.

Unlike with plenty of the big money transfer deals seen throughout the Premier League, Carroll’s switch from Anfield is still a temporary one for now, and it is this move which showcases just why West Ham are fine being where they are at the moment.

Should, as now looks likely, the Hammers end the season in the middle reaches of the table then the money generated from both that position and the well-publicised new Premier League television deal will allow them to kick on and look to perhaps make Carroll’s signing a permanent one if they wish – maybe for around £15m.

Even if they don’t want to sanction such an outlay for the forward they will at least have that money there to spend on other targets, and you can be sure that Allardyce will be determined to spend that money wisely and not fritter it away as has been seen elsewhere.

West Ham just needed this season get into that position though. A season where previous ups and downs were forgotten about and consolidation in the top flight could be achieved.

They aren’t safe yet of course, and could even find themselves drawn closer to the foot of the table given that four of their next seven fixtures are against Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, but you have to believe that they’ll pick up enough points to ensure a safe distance between them and bottom three.

It might not be as glamorous as some would want, and it is likely to leave Hammers fans waiting a while to see their team on Match Of The Day, but this approach is just what their club needed in a first season back in the big time.

Next season they could really reap the benefits.
